18th Avenue – Underground Utility work

  • Scope of work is to place power and communications lines on 18th Avenue between Jefferson & Cherry underground
  • Comments have been received from SDOT for the Utility Major Permit (UMP) and the Street Improvement Permit (SIP). We are preparing to resubmit next week. It should take a few weeks after that to obtain the permits. Work will begin immediately. It will not require road closures.
  • The SIP covers capital improvements mandated in the Conditions of the MIMP. Details of the work can be found in the SMC Cherry Hill MIMP City Council Findings Response Worksheet, Item #9.
  • We were delayed in resubmitting the SIP and UMP plans back to SDOT. We now have the needed information and will resubmit the UMP application on 7/10/2018; the SIP will be resubmitted on 7/18.

  • PSE- July 18th PSE will be capping the two gas lines on 18th Avenue. May require one-way traffic but not a lane closure.

The new roof is completed. We are waiting for materials to arrive, so we can install the metal caps that goes along the parapet wall.

The Summer Concert Series has begun; it occurs at lunchtime Monday thru Friday in the James Tower Plaza until Friday, September 7.

  • Expecting the MUP & Building permit in July/August. This is when we plan to begin demolition. Some preliminary exterior work will be done in July.
  • Minor asbestos abatement on the exterior of the existing Spencer Tech building will be done this week.
  • The work will be done by a subcontractor certified and trained for this task and all materials handled in accordance with state regulations.
  • The asbestos abatement would leave an opening in the side of the building that would require temporarily boarding it up until receipt of the building permits. We decided to wait until we can implement the permanent repair.

Jefferson Tower Roof

The replacement roof on Jefferson Tower is targeted to start on May 21, 2018. This may slip to May 28th.
It will require six weeks to complete, weather permitting.

Cherry Street Residential Project:

MUP

Sabey is responding to a number of corrections received this week from the city.

Demolition:

Depending on when Sabey receives the MUP, demolition could begin as early as June. If the MUP reviews take a while, Sabey will wait and have the demo permit issued with the building permit in July/August.

Building Permit:

Permit corrections have been submitted to the City.
Assuming additional corrections are required, a building permit is expected in late July/early August.
